Are you a Diya or Jugnu? (oil lamp or firefly)

Disclaimer: Kindly go through the reading guide before proceeding ahead

We have been often told by others to keep everyone happy!

Be just like a diya’s cotton wick which burns itself up in order to give light to others.

ie. Keep others happy even if it means sacrificing your happiness.

But is this approach right?

Can an unhappy person keep others happy?

{Pause & think about it}

Diwali-DiyasLet’s consider the case of diya from a different perspective –

  • Have you ever observed the base of diya ever?

If you have, you must have observed that even though a diya spreads light its base is always dark.

  • How long does a diya’s wick last?

Till the oil lasts.

Is it for a long time or a short time?

  • And what about the wick after it?

Can it be used again or gets burned?

  • Does the wick light itself up to illuminate others (ie. sacrifice one’s own self to keep others happy) or is it been put on fire by someone else?

ates-bocegi_609192Lets now consider the case of Jugnu (Firefly) –

As you might be knowing jugnu’s also spread light.

  • Do Jugnu’s burn themselves in order to spread light?

  • Do Jugnu’s last longer than diya’s wick?

  • (Most Importantly) Do jugnu’s light up in order to give light to others or it arises from within it with no regard to anyone else?
  • Is the focus of jugnu outside or inside? (Think about it)

fireflies_headerBut what if jugnu’s main objective were to just spread light to others? (Focus outside)

Then it wouldn’t stop spreading the light even for a second. Eventually, its energy would keep on decreasing and decreasing. it wouldn’t even be aware of it cause his focus isn’t on his energy but on others (outside) and then the end of our dear jugnu.

So what happens when jugnu’s focus is on the inside?

Well, in this case, the jugnu ensures that it has adequate energy at all the time. By keeping himself fulfilled without any intention he continues to indirectly spread light. Even if you put it in a Jar & cover it with black cloth, it still won’t stop emitting light. It doesn’t need anyone’s validation.

Just like a Jugnu a happy person doesn’t need to or aims to spread happiness, happiness automatically spreads from him.

Jo aandar se aati hai woh reh jaati hai,

Jo bahaar se aati hai woh beh jaati hai

{Whatever originates from within stays,

Whatever arises from outside will eventually flow away}

So what do you wanna be a diya or jugnu? (the choice is yours)

General notes –

Upon decoding Why some people want to make others happy. I found that it is so that they themselves derive happiness from it. (For those who disagree kindly try to make those u don’t like or consider your enemy happy and then please share your perspective). That is their end goal is their own happiness.

So whether you approach the end goal directly or indirectly or get lost the choice is yours.

But one question is still left –

Can an unhappy person keep others happy?

Ans – Can an empty water can water plants?

  1. An impressive share! I’ve just forwarded this onto
a colleague who was conducting a little homework on this.
And he in fact ordered me dinner because I discovered it for him…
lol. So let me reword this…. Thanks for the meal!! But yeah, thanks
for spending time to talk about this matter here on your web site.
